Portugal - Home

Portugal has become a devoted developer of courses but falls well behind in numbers to its larger neighbour of Spain. However, the quality in general of the nearly 60 courses that do exist provide some excellent top level golfing locations.

The most popular and world known location is the Algarve. The climate is ideal in the south with the winter months averaging about 16ºC. The locations of the various courses stretch from Budens in the west and along the coastline to the Spanish border at Vila Real de Santo António. Due to the ease of access to all courses any golfer staying in the Algarve can choose to play at any location. This is providing it is not at the height of the season when starting times are limited in availability due to the popularity and need to be prior booked on the major courses. This problem is easily overcome by using our sister site shown below offering great discount green fees.

If wishing to play the Algarve and enjoy discount Green Fees then we recommend that you visit our sister site www.algarvegolf.net for complete details about the courses, discount green fee booking service, and lots of other useful information. Likewise, if your wish to play in other parts of Portugal and its Islands then visit our site www.portugal-golf.info.

Lisbon area is well served with many courses on the adjoining coastal area and inland. Some of the better ones are the Belas, Estoril, Estoril-Sol, Lisbon Sports Club, Penha Longa, Quinta de Beloura and Quinta da Marinha. Across the river from Lisbon and within easy reach are the courses of Aroeira, Montado, Quinta de Peru and Troía.

To the north of Lisbon is the area known as "Costa de Prata". There are several courses in this coastal region and more are at present being constructed.

Close to the major town of Porto there are courses and there more futher to the north. The major courses can be found at Amarante, Espinho, Ponte de Lima.

In the inner northern area there is one course at Vidago and another at Montebela near Viseu.

The Atlantic Island of Madeira has three courses, the Santo da Serra and the Palheiro on the main Island and the third is on the Porto Santo Island.
