Crowning the town of Estremoz in the Alentejo is the Castle and Palace built in the 13th century by King Diniz for his much loved Queen. In the 17th century the castle was partially destroyed but in 1970 the damage was repaired whilst constructing the present Pousada. There are many stories and fables about the saintly nature of this Queen Isabel and one more appealing than most is the one of when bread for the poor hidden in her dress turned into flowers when challenged by her husband.
This building has been carefully converted whilst retaining most of the magnificence of its original internal construction. The décor and collectors furnishings have been carefully chosen to reflect the value of this important historic monument. There are 32 rooms with one suite supported with a restaurant known for the quality of its cuisine and a bar. For the convenience of guests there is a swimming pool in the grounds.
The Pousada is approximately 169 kms from Lisbon Airport.
